Crossrail Limited, established in 2001, is the company that was set up to build the new railway that became known as the Elizabeth line when it opened through central London in May 2022.
Crossrail was a 50/50 joint venture company between Transport for London (TfL) and the Department for Transport (DfT) until 5 December 2008 when it became a fully owned subsidiary of TfL. The Elizabeth line is run by TfL and is fully integrated in London’s transport network.
