Crossrail Limited, established in 2001, is the company that has been set up to build the new railway that will become known as the Elizabeth line when it opens through central London.
It was a 50/50 joint venture company between Transport for London (TfL) and the Department for Transport (DfT) until 5 December 2008 when it became a fully owned subsidiary of TfL. Once the railway is complete it will be run by TfL as part of London’s integrated transport network
Crossrail will help to support economic growth and boost the region’s regeneration areas.
To achieve this, we have consulted with a broad range of stakeholders and the public at large. In July 2008 the scheme gained parliamentary approval with the passing of the Crossrail Act and is due to open in phases starting in 2020.
