Crossrail Technical and Innovate18 programme jointly undertook a trial to assess the capabilities of existing iBeacon (Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE) for use on Construction projects. A number of potential use cases for the technology were identified including those to support health and safety of workers. The technology was tested within an office and site environment within Crossrail Bond Street Station.
A number of lessons learnt and current limitations are provided in this report which limit the use of the technology in its current state but also point towards a location-based technology of this kind having huge potential use on Construction sites in the future.
