Charles has been involved in Railway Operations since 1978, joining British Rail as an operations graduate after Cambridge University. He has held numerous operational positions and was also in developing the UK rail telecommunications network for commercial exploitation. He worked on the development of Crossrail for 10 years, latterly as Head of Rail Operations.
He now consults on Rail Operations, systems engineering and major project delivery, which has included the successful mobilisation the MTR concession for the Crossrail train operating company.
His experience is worldwide, and has included assignments for both light and heavy rail. He sits on the Peer Review Panel for the delivery of the Melbourne Metro to actively participate and advise on the timely and economic delivery of the scheme. In this country, he is has recently worked within DfT on the impact of HS2 on the classic network.
