Archaeology archive – Eleanor Street Shaft

Document type: Dataset

  • Abstract

This dataset includes a desk study, WSI and fieldwork reports for an archaeology evaluation undertaken in advance of construction of the Crossrail intermediate shaft works comprising a temporary access shaft and a main ventilation shaft at Eleanor Street.

No Prehistoric, Roman or medieval remains have been found.  There was evidence for post-medieval cultivation and gardening activity.

The site remained undeveloped through the post-medieval period until the mid-19th century, when urban development around the site accelerated and construction of railways in this part of London began.

The WSI also describes the built heritage asset list associated with this work.
