Abstract
This dataset includes the desk study, WSIs, archaeology and built heritage reports relating to sites around Crossrail’s tunnel portal in West London.
At Paddington New Yard remains of structures built by celebrated engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel for his Great Western Railway were unearthed. Findings included foundations of a 200 metre long engine shed, a workshop and turntables.
At Westbourne Park (Royal Oak Portal), in west London, a 68,000 year old river channel, close to the route of the historic River Westbourne, was discovered. The ancient waterway contained a large collection of fossilised animal bones from species that are now extinct in the British Isles, including prehistoric reindeer and bison.
